Spine Surgery

Spinal Surgery was officially established in 2004. It is a clinical department that integrates medicine, education, and research. It is a key clinical specialty in Guangdong Province and an outstanding ward for high-quality nursing services provided by the National Health Commission.

The team currently has 16 doctors, including 5 chief physicians, 3 deputy chief physicians, 8 doctoral students, and 5 master's students; There are 19 nurses, including 1 chief nurse and 1 deputy chief nurse. Most of the medical and nursing teams in the department graduated from national key medical colleges or well-known overseas universities, and a total of 6 people have been awarded the Shenzhen High level Talent Plan or the Shenzhen Health Elite Talent Training Plan; In recent years, the team has gone to several top domestic and international spinal surgery training institutions. The department currently has 72 beds and is equipped with a smart ward (intelligent infusion system, intelligent medicine cabinet, dispensing robot, intelligent risk assessment system, intelligent interaction platform, etc.), O-arm, ultrasonic osteotome, surgical navigation system, surgical microscope, intervertebral foramen endoscope surgical system and a large number of international advanced equipment.

The department has comprehensively carried out anterior, posterior, and combined anterior posterior cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral spine surgeries, and has reached a certain advanced level in the diagnosis and treatment of cervical spondylosis, spinal deformities, lumbar spondylolisthesis, and spinal tumors. The main surgeries performed by the department are as follows:

1) Spinal tumors: Whole piece resection of all parts of the spine, removal of tumors within the spinal canal, and combined anterior and posterior decompression and reconstruction of the spine;

2) Cervical spondylosis: anterior discectomy, nerve decompression, bone graft fusion (ACDF), artificial disc replacement (TDR), anterior subtotal vertebral body resection, titanium mesh implantation, and titanium plate fixation (ACCF), posterior single and double door spinal canal enlargement and shaping surgery, anterior, posterior, and anterior posterior combined correction surgery for cervical kyphosis deformity;

3) Ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament: anterior fixation resection of the spinal cord, direct decompression and reconstruction of spinal stability, posterior single door laminoplasty, and overall anterior displacement of ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (ACAF) nerve direct decompression;

4) Cervical trauma: internal fixation with screws for odontoid fracture, reduction and internal fixation for atlantoaxial dislocation, decompression and internal fixation for lower cervical fracture dislocation with spinal cord injury;

5) Upper cervical spondylosis: corrective fixation surgery for skull base depression and atlantoaxial dislocation, atlantoaxial pedicle screw fixation, posterior atlantoaxial decompression and occipital internal fixation surgery;

6) Scoliosis and hunchback: correction of idiopathic scoliosis in adolescents, osteotomy and correction of kyphosis deformity in ankylosing spondylitis and elderly osteoporotic fractures with kyphosis deformity (SPO, PSO, PVCR);

7) Treatment of thoracic and lumbar spine fractures with spinal cord injury: various anterior and posterior decompression and internal fixation surgeries of the spine;

8) Diagnosis and treatment of thoracic spinal stenosis: posterior intervertebral fenestration and yellow ligament resection.

9) Diagnosis and treatment of degenerative lumbar diseases: surgical treatment for lumbar disc herniation, lumbar spinal stenosis, lumbar instability, spondylolisthesis, and degenerative lumbar scoliosis.

10) Diagnosis and treatment of spinal tuberculosis and infection: tuberculosis or infection lesion clearance surgery, various anterior and posterior spinal stabilization reconstruction surgeries after lesion resection;

11) Minimally invasive spinal surgery: Various spinal endoscopic systems are used to treat intervertebral disc herniation, while percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) and kyphoplasty (PKP) are used to treat osteoporotic fractures in the elderly.

12) Precision spinal surgery: Based on individualized evaluation, personalized treatment plans are developed using modern navigation technology, neural detection technology, minimally invasive technology, 3D printing guide plate technology, precision and efficient surgical instruments, etc., and spinal surgery is performed by skilled specialists.

The department will promote the coordinated development of medical education and research, continuously improve and enhance the diagnosis and treatment level and ability of common and frequently occurring spinal diseases, consolidate the advantages in the diagnosis and treatment of cervical spondylosis and degenerative spinal diseases in the elderly, actively carry out high difficulty and major surgeries, strengthen the construction of precision minimally invasive spinal surgery, and build a spinal surgery department with important influence in the Greater Bay Area.
